The Mexican Ministry of Public Education (Secretaría de Educación Publica, SEP) will give four scholarships to excellent Dutch students that want to realize a study program or part of a study program in Mexico in the academic year 2010/2011.
Scholarships for Dutch students in Mexico
What are the criteria of participation?
- Be a student with a Dutch nationality (not having a double (Mexican/Dutch) nationality) and currently not living in Mexico;
- Have excellent study results (average of at least 7, calculated from all courses taken in higher education);
- Study (or recently have studied) at a Dutch higher education institute;
- Very good knowledge of Spanish, both written and spoken;
- Be accepted by the Mexican university.
For which study programmes can a scholarship be received?
- Full master’s or PhD-program;
- Part of a master’s or PhD-program. This can be within an existing exchange agreement between the Dutch and Mexican higher education institute. This can also be outside of existing agreements. In that case, the student should demonstrate that the courses to be taken will be recognized within the (Dutch) study program that the student is currently taking;
- Part of a bachelor’s program. However, master’s and PhD programs are preferred.

What does the scholarship consist of?
- Registration fees (except for CIESAS, which has tuition fee of 3,448 pesos (approx. 220 euros) per year;
- Full tuition waiver; and
- 8,000 pesos a month (approx. 510 euros) for the duration of the course, with a maximum of two years.
How should I apply?
Collect the following documents (two copies of each document):
- Filled in application form from SEP in Spanish;
- Letter of acceptance from the Mexican university (copy)
Please contact Nuffic Neso Mexico for assistance in case this is not a full degree program and if the courses to be taken are not part of an existing exchange agreement; - Curriculum ("vakkenoverzicht") of the study program, if possible with study-calendar;
- Curriculum Vitae with copies of documents proving the facts mentioned;
- Copy of diploma;
- Copy of birth certificate;
- Medical certificate of good health;
- In case the student will not do a full degree program, but some courses:
A letter of the Dutch higher education institute indicating that the courses to be taken will be recognized within the study program of the Dutch institute; - One or two letters of recommendation of the Dutch higher education institute, printed on official paper from the institute (see format);

How will the selection take place?
Nuffic Neso will send all applications to SEP. SEP has established a selection committee that will decide which four students will receive the scholarship. At the latest in July 2010 the student will hear directly from SEP if he or she is selected. The decision of the selection committee is definitive and can not be appealed against. Documentation will not be send back to the applicant.
